How a site comes together

Exeter is within our South West working area. Where the groundworks are split between several firms, each handover is a chance for delays. When one team carries the job through, the site moves straight on to the next stage. This is the order we work in.

1. Clear and strip

Site clearance and, where needed, demolition up to and including commercial buildings, with an asbestos survey arranged beforehand. Then the site strip and bulk earthworks.

2. Sub-base and foundations

Geogrid-reinforced stone sub-bases, excavation for foundations and services, strip and pad foundations, ground beams and blockwork up to ground level.

3. Drainage

Foul and surface water drainage with inspection chambers, and attenuation tanks built from crates wrapped in geotextile and membrane, installed to design. Putting it in alongside the foundations keeps it coordinated with the slab.

4. Slab and external concrete

We check the sub-base, membrane, reinforcement and levels before any concrete arrives, then pour and power float the floor. Yards, kerbed slab bays and perimeter concrete follow.

And if you need the building too

We also supply, erect and clad steel-framed buildings, so the same contract can run on from the groundworks to building control sign-off. Our Peterborough project followed exactly this sequence.
